A group of 14 are preparing to venture forth to the Centro Romero located at the US-Mexico border, March 20-26, 2009. This immersion experience will include in depth study of immigration issues, an examination of the role of religion in the region, and exposure to realities on both sides of the border. The heart of our week will be two border crossings. We are excited to go and appreciative of Centro Romero for guiding our experience.
This group is sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Berekely, CA, United Church of Christ and includes 3 members of the church and 8 students from UC Berkeley and Mills College. We have been working over the last two months to get to know each other, raise money for the trip (thanks to the generosity of the members of First Congregational Church) and prepare our hearts and minds for being together in an intentional study community. Trip participants include: students--Alyssa Rasmussen, Desteni Smith, Elisa Pasqua, Tsung Mou, Sara Mizner, Dulce Maria Galicia, Vielka Elvebak, and FCCB members Chris McCoy (also a student), Stan Boghosian, Ben Kocs-Meyers, and Any Young. The group leaders are Tinley Ireland and Adam Blons. See you in San Diego!
